Kawa started in year 2000 by singer / songwriter Mona Nordgaard, in cooperation with Sven Terje Bang on computer programming and Ståle Staurseth on bass. We wanted to mix live and electronic music in our own compositions. The result is a record with mix of electronic and organic sound in a dub, pop, jazz and reggae format.

Kawa as a band is about to change again. From the work of electronic, back to more simplicity.

After many years with "loops and regulations" Kawa want to front the record with simpler “LIVE” versions of the songs from the album and move forward with new material and new members. Ståle and Bang have moved out of Oslo and can no longer contribute the same way as before. In their replacement we got three young and enthusiastic men on drums, bass and guitar. Luis Landa Schreitt on drums, Per Andreas Windingstad on bass and Joakim Kristiansen on guitar have been joining the band recently. They give new inspiration to the music. Wenke Simensen on percussion, Charlotte Valstad Nielsen on sax, Tove Andersen Younis on trumpet and Mona Nordgård on vocal are still going strong. Together we made good sound on the release-concert for the album at John Dee 4. august this year.

Kawa is and have always been a project in motion, colored by the musicians currently involved. Even it is based in Mona's songwriting and melodies, new music is made of people, time and place. Is the world big enough? We think yes! We believe in the vide variations of people that gives us positive feedback. We also believe in an open mind, respect, freedom to speak, justice, equal rights and a full belly. Take care of the nature and the animals on this earth, and to put a stop to evil greed that is ruining our planet. Big words, and even harder to do...... worth dreaming of and fighting for. Do a little bit of god every day. Fight your demons. Do your best. Together we can be strong.
